In early August, 2001, Keith Gryder and Bryan
Hughes discovered that they both shared an obsessive and consuming passion for
beautiful trance. From their first time hanging out and spinning together on a
sunny Saturday afternoon, they immediately realized that not only their love of
music was shared, but the way they chose to manifest it.
Ironically, some people have wondered who is the teacher and who is the student.
The reality is that both Keith and Bryan are talented and skilled DJs who
developed their musical tastes and mixing styles independently. Their ability to
come together and mix a seamless beautiful thread is not much different and as
rare as two painters who can paint the same painting.
Keith Gryder
(Gryder&Hughes, San Francisco)
DJ extraordinary, Keith Gryder has roared onto the San Francisco trance scene
dropping some of the most driving and pretty wax. Spinning for only a year,
Keith got his big break spinning the sunrise set at Burningman in 2001.

underground parties such as Metropolis (SF), Bump (Cat Club, SF), X-Men (715
Harrison, SF) and Powerhouse (SF).
Bryan Hughes

releasing underground artists such as Young American Primitive, Tasti Box, Daisy
Glow, Single Cell Orchestra, and Essa3 on ZoeMagik; Bringing San Francisco to
the forefront of the underground dance community.
Shortly after the launch of ZoeMagik, and the incredible reception by the
European underground, Bryan and Jim launched City of Tribes Records. Bryan was
also closely involved in San Francisco’s early rave scene in 1991 with the
productions of ToonTown.
Bryan got his big break playing New Years Eve 1993 at Product (1015 Folsom, SF).
For the following three years, Bryan teamed with Lewis Walden (Sugar, San
Francisco) and continued playing every Saturday night at 1015. Working with
other friends, he also started an underground Friday night party called
Revolution as well as Tribal (Stud, SF) on Thursday nights. Most notably, Bryan
opened for Paul Oakenfold and Mark Lewis at Illuminaughty, Burningman 2000.
