Bonnie Pointer
was born in Californias San Francisco Bay area. She began singing as a child in
church where her father and mother were both ministers. As a young teen she sang
background vocals with Elvin Bishop, Taj Mahal, Dave Mason,.Grace Slick, Chicago &
many others.
Not long after she formed the group The
Pointer Sisters, they signed a recording contract with Blue Thumb Records, resulting in
the hits "Yes We Can Can", "Betcha Got A Chick On The Side" and the
Country & Western Grammy winning song "Fairy Tale" which she wrote. Along
with her sisters they received countless gold & platinum records, Grammy nominations
and music awards.
Her TV Credits include the Helen Reddy Show,
Cher Show, Carol Burnett, Flip Wilson, Mike Douglas, Dinah Shore, Sesame Street, Solid
Gold, Rock Concert, The Tonight Show, Midnight Special, Merve Griffin, Mac Davis, Andy
Williams and more
Also, along with her sisters, she has movie
credits in Car Wash, Beverly Hills Cop, When We Were Kings, Working Girl, Heavenly Bodies,
Studio 54. The girls then signed a new deal with R.C.A (Planet Records). Bonnie always
loved to write songs and whilst there she penned "Im So Excited" which
became a huge success for the Pointer Sisters. Included on the albums that followed were
"Jump", "Fire", "Slow Hand", "Neutron Dance" and
"Hes So Shy".
Later when moving to Motown Records, Bonnie
emerged as a strong solo artist with the release of "Free From My Freedom",
"Heaven Must Have Sent You" and "I Cant Help Myself" (Sugar Pie
Honey Bunch) all going to Number One and resulting in platinum sales and Billboard &
American Music Awards as a solo performer and with the Pointer Sisters.
Some prestigious performances include the San
Francisco Opera House, The White House, The Willie Nelson Picnics and the Grand Ole Opry.
She also has a star on Hollywoods walk of fame.
Bonnie is currently in the studio completing
her new solo album to be released later this year. The album contains new material written
by Bonnie as well as some rewritten covers. This album promises to keep Bonnie's
reputation of a classic, soulful and "keep the party jumpin' DIVA". |
