One of the most popular and
recognizable personalities and voices in music since the early Sixties, Dionne Warwick
continues to enjoy a phenomenally successful and diverse career on record, in concert, on
television, and now as the host of a nationally-syndicated radio show. "Love Notes
From Around The World" brings romance back to radio with the greatest of classic love
songs mixed with interviews of legendary artists by Warwick and her own commentary.
Appropriately, one of her latest albums is
titled Friends Can Be Lovers, and includes a duet with cousin Whitney Houston. Recently,
she's also delved into Latin music with Aquarela Do Brasil. To date, Warwick's prowess
with the love song has resulted in two #1 singles among 12 Top 10 hits (31 Top 40
singles), including several which will forever be associated with her: "Walk On
By," "Message To Michael," "I Say A Little Prayer," "This
Girl's In Love With You," and the Grammy-winning "Do You Know The Way To San
Jose."
Among her other hits are the #1 "Then
Came You" (with The Spinners) and the Grammy-winning "That's What Friends Are
For" (with Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder and Elton John), as well as,"Theme From
Valley Of The Dolls," "I'll Never Fall In Love Again," "Alfie,"
"Anyone Who Had A Heart," "Heartbreakers," and the Grammy-winning
"I'll Never Love This Way Again." She earned seven Top 40 singles in the
Eighties alone, among them collaborations with Luther Vandross, Johnny Mathis, and Jeffrey
Osborne. Overall, she's garnered one platinum, five gold albums (including 1985's Friends)
and five Grammy Awards.
Warwick began her career doing background
sessions in New York pop and R&B studios. Discovered by the then-relatively unknown
composer Burt Bacharach, she signed her first record deal in 1962 and debuted with the hit
"Don't Make Me Over," written and produced by Bacharach and Hal David. In an
extraordinary life as a performer spanning more than 30 years, she has bridged pop,
R&B, gospel and now Latin music.
Today, Dionne Warwick, whether singing about
love on stage, TV or record or talking about love and relationships on radio, continues to
help provide the soundtrack to romance. |
