Sabrina
Johnston leapt into the club / r&b circuit in the early '90s and the response was
unanimous - "Brilliant", "Instantly Massive Appeal", "Packs
Plenty", "Powerful".
Starbound Records, too, knows a good thing when they hear it,
and is bringing Johnston home again -- to airwaves and dance floors with her Starbound
debut release of "REASONS." With fluid creativity ruled by mood and emotion,
Johnston co-wrote the lyrics and music and played piano on the high-energy dance single on
which she infuses r&b vocals.
"I've always been a performer - singing and dancing
since I was a kid doing USO shows in my hometown of Rosell, New Jersey. I grew up inspired
listening to my Grandmother sing opera and studying bass clarinet, piano, singing and
dancing. Bless my parents for insisting that I study", says Johnston.
Studying she did, attending summer music camps, dance and
voice classes until she was old enough to enroll at Chaney State University as a music
major. "Education is so important to a musician and that's where I learned how to
orchestrate and develop my own style", Johnston States.
Johnson's vocal range is stylistically diverse and
distinctive, transitioning smoothly from r&b to soul & pop. She quickly found
herself in a great demand as a session singer with such artists as West Street Mob,
Funking for Jamaica and Lauren Hill.
Johnston expanded her potential and pushed the possibilities
by writing, arranging and producing the songs she sang. "I try to incorporate as much
of a spectrum as I can. I'll sing however the mood hits me at the time. I go with the one
that's the most strong to make the song happen and give it some life," enthuses
Johnston.
She made her heard with the self-penned, gospel-tinged pop
dance/urban hit, "Peace in the Valley," which she released on her own. The
Rolling Stones too were paying attention, and asked her to audition for their "Steel
Wheels" tour. They lost out to JR Records and East West London when she was
signed for a self-titled album.
With the release of "Peace in the Valley" and the
follow-up single "Friendship," Sabrina began touring throughout Europe,
garnering rave reviews and adoring fans where ever she performed.
Extraordinary energy and vocals that "take you on a
rollercoaster ride through heaven," Johnston continues to give us more
"REASONS" to keep on listening. |
